Your community centre needs your help

If you live or have a business within our catchment area, Sir John Franklin is your community centre, offering safe and fun sports and programming all year round, including but not limited to:

  • Youth hockey, soccer, baseball and karate
  • Free drop-in badminton, public skating and tennis
  • Tiny Tots and Rock and Read child programs
  • Annual Winter Carnival

OUR GOAL is to continue and expand the program and activies offered to the community, and to ensure that teh centre offers a safe, accessible and iviting environment for all of our users. We are volunteer driven and dedicated to ensuring that the centre is providing for the needs of the community.

We have started a door-to-door fundraising campaign for Sir John Franklin Community Centre. We are taking a new approach this year, recognizing your support in new ways. Donors who qualify as FRIENDS, SUPPORTERS and PARTNERS will have their names engraved onto name plates which will be framed and displayed prominently in the centre.

  • Friend: $25 - $49 you get a tax receipt and name engraved in Friend category
  • Supporter: $50 - $99 you get a tax receipt and name engraved in Supporter category
  • Partner: $100 + you get a tax receipt and name engraved in Partner category

Charitable contribution tax-receipts will be issued for all donations over $10, by the City of Winnipeg by mail in February. A community centre member will be knocking at your door or leaving a letter in your mailbox if you are not home. If you would like to donate by phone, please drop off a cheque made out to Sir John Franklin Community Centre.

Your financial support can help us to ensure that our community centre continues to provide a safe and fiun place for local youth to participate in an inclusive recreational environment, or just to hang out.

Like all community centres, SJFCC must supplement the support it receives through the City of Winnipeg with local fundraising initiatives. Currently SJFCC estimates that is requires at least $20,000 of repairs and maintenance of its physical infrastructure and equipment.

With your help, we can make necessary improvements, such as:

  • Replace and repair ice-making equipment
  • Replacement of hot water tanks
  • Replacement of broe=ken boards on baseball bleachers
  • Repair and replace chain link fencing
  • Replacing boards along rinks and repairing players boxes
  • Replacing the workshop overhead door
  • Repairs to the tennis court surfaces
  • Replace and repair lawn mowers and snowblowers
  • Upgrading interior spaces to attract and facilitate programs
  • Upgrade canteen/kitchen to support food handling requirements

Your donation and support of the community centre is greatly appreciated. Every dollar goes a long way in helping us reach our goals. We rely heavily on volunteer efforts, so your money goes directly to the costs we have.

Volunteers

We are always looking for people to join us in our efforts to support Sir John Franklin community centre. If you can walk your block and help us collect fundraising efforts, that would be terrific. Please give us a call. If you are interested in supporting SJF in another way, we also look forward to hearing from you.
