People, great people, make the Sir John Franklin Community Centre what it is. For some of our community, SJF is a place they visit once or twice a year, while others sometimes wonder if they live here, with kids at hockey or soccer practice and numerous activities throughout the year.

Community Centres on Corydon Look to the Future

[May 15, 2009] Community Centre staff and volunteers in Crescentwood, River Heights and Sir John Franklin are exploring ways to collaboratively enhance, develop and deliver programming and activities.

A committee was formed in February, with equal representation from each Community Centre, to examine synergies in funding, participation and the use of available space in the three Centres.

The committee will investigate an evolution of the informal partnerships that have existed between the Centres for many years, to determine the potential benefits to the larger community.

Members of the committee have been appointed by their respective Community Centre boards and report to those boards. Information on the committee’s work will be available through newsletters, recreation program guides and websites under the direction of each facility.

Community consultation and support will determine the success of any initiative.

NOTE: Board positions and other volunteer opportunities are sometimes available at the centre. We ask members of the community interested in keeping SJFCC a vibrant place for our area to please step up and commit to doing a year or more as a volunteer at your local commuwnity centre.
