At Sir John Franklin we have both recreational dances for various age groups and dance classes where you can learn to Fox Trot, Jazz and Slow Waltz with instructors available to teach the beginners and an advance class. Hip Hop Dance for Teens

A new program at SJF is teen hip hop lessons. Check the calendar for times, and call the office to register, or just show up and give us a try. See you there!

Please join us for this free introductory class to see what these classes will be all about. You will get a chance to ask the instructor any questions you may have, so come out ready to dance!

City of Winnipeg some years has scheduled recreational dance classes at Sir John Franklin in the past. These classes are booked through the Leisure Guide. Check the calendar for dates and times.

Family Dances

The fun Family Dance program ran successfully for a few years, with a few dances each year. If anyone is interested in getting it going again, please contact the community centre office and we'd be happy to see it start up again.

The family dance idea is aimed at families with young kids. A licensed DJ plays a mix of fun music and schedule the events from 6 - 9 PM. Tickets are at the door (they were $5 per adult and $4 per child). Kids cannot come unattended. The canteen is open for refreshments. Money is used to support programs for young families at Sir John Franklin. Contact the Sir John Franklin (489-9537) office for further details. Check the calendar for dates and times.

(Please note that these events are not the same as 'family fun nights', which are occasional recreational evenings associated with the Indoor Playground prorgam.)

We are looking for a new team of volunteers to assist in the organizing of the family dances. Please contact the club if you are interested. We've had great success in the past and would be happy to lead you through the set-up.

Two years running, families joined their neighbours at a New Years Eve Party aimed at families with young children. We danced the evening away and brought in the new year at a time more suitable for young ones. Doors opened at 6 PM and we wound things up at 9 PM. The canteed was open for refreshments. There are activities available, aimed at kids 10 aged and under. The price is $5 each for adults, $4 for children of all ages. Tierras and Tuxedos optional, fun and dancing obligatory. Pre-teen dances

These events are scheduled throughout the school year and are aimed at kids in about grade five and six. They are popular activities for this age group. We like to have extra volunteers for the evenings. Check the calendar for dates and times. More info...
