Sir John Franklin Community Centre has recently joined together with River Heights and Crescentwood Community Centres to form the Central Corydon Community Centre, also known as C4.

[December 30, 2010] Little Signing Stars is a new program at at Sir John Franklin for young children aged 1 and 2. Sing, Sign and Jump into Learning!

We're back on Mondays starting later in November 2010

[Nov 3, 2010] The Indoor Playground is a drop-in program that provides children with space to exercise their bodies as well as their imaginations, and to offer parents and caregivers an opportunity to meet. Activities and toys are varied from week-to-week and are available for children 0-10 years old.

The Indoor Playground makes use of a two rooms in the Community centre.  A playroom downstairs, which includes crafts, games, puzzles, dress up clothes, a kitchen area, building toys, a sandbox or water table, as well as many other small toys.  A gym upstairs, which provides riding toys for a variety of ages, a play structure and  a "Safety Zone" for toddlers.

Please come and join us on Monday mornings from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. There is a drop-in fee of $2.00 per child per visit and $5.00 per family (children under 6 months are free with a sibling) Please feel free to contact the centre if you have any questions 489-9537.

PROGRAM WILL BEGIN ON NOVEMBER 15, 2010

NEW PROGRAM: Mom & Tot Fitness Classes

[December 2009] This 50-minute strength and muscle training class is great for the mom with an older baby as well as for those moms who have returned to work. The class focuses on toning and strengthening as well as core work to help you continue your postnatal fitness activity while your tot spends time nearby playing with the many toys!

Ideal for moms with tots who are walking and enjoy some independent play, up to tots age 2.
Class starting Sundays, January 17, 2010 from 11:00-11:50am.
This class runs for 6 weeks, ending Sunday, February 21st.

Rock and Read restarts in the fall

[June, 2010] Rock and Read is a great program we run here at Sir John Franklin, aimed at younger children and their caregivers. We will be starting again in the fall of 2010. Contact the office for details or telephone Angela at 489-7392.

We know you've been asking for it, and we're getting ready to announce the return of Indoor Playground! This has been one of our most popular programs in the past, and we are delighted to welcome families back to join in the fun.

This is the perfect thing for a cold day, getting kids active and stimulated in a creative atmosphere with other kids.

SJF Tiny Tots pre-school program Tuesdays & Thursdays

[Dec. 2009] Families with very young children have a new program at Sir John Franklin Community Centre. The two hour morning sessions will run twice a week and are aimed at children aged 2 to 5 years old. The children will take part in two fun-filled hours of educational activities. There are new themes and child-inspired activities each week. The structure includes:

  • Free Play
  • Crafts
  • Group Time
  • Story TIme
  • Gym or Outdoor Play

It is not too late to register, please call Sir John Franklin Community Centre at 489-9537.
There are only 20 spaces, so register early to avoid disappointment.

Rock and Read Program

This is a Free program for parents and children to come and interact in an educational, literacy promoting environment. Parents and children will participate in a wide variety of activities including:

  • eading
  • singing
  • finger plays
  • movement exercises. 

Parents will also have time to make books for their children during this program. 

This is a 6 week program open to parents and children.

General Information

Sir John Franklin's Indoor Playground is a unique drop-in program that provides children with space to exercise their bodies as well as their imaginations, and to offer parents and caregivers an opportunity to meet. Activities and toys are varied from week-to-week and are available for children 0-10 years old.

A gym upstairs, which provides riding toys for a variety of ages, a "Safety Zone" for toddlers, and coffee for the adults.

The Indoor Playground started in January 2004. Please note that children must be supervised by an adult. Parents tell us that there is no other program like it, the kids love it and parents enjoy the opportunity to visit and meet one another in our community centre.

The big kid room downstairs provides children ages five and up with crafts, board games, air hockey and other activities. The big kid room is open during the holiday season and on family fun nights. (see below)

IP Cost

  • $4.50 per child per session
  • (children under 6 months old are FREE WITH A SIBLING)
  • Multi-visit Pass: $40 for a 10 visit pass, paid for in advance
  • Payment can be cash or cheque, payable to Sir John Ffranklin Community Centre

Notes: Ours is a drop-in, not drop-off program. Children must be supervised by a caregiver. Please hang coats and park strollers by the office (left as you come in the front doors). SIGN-IN and pay at the sign-in table or in the office.Family Nights

Family Fun Nights at Indoor Playground provide an opportunity for families and working parents to play together with their children. The play room, the gym and the big kid room are all available for people to cruise through at their own pace. Admission is $3.50 per child, and times are 6:00 - 8:30 PM

Guidelines

  • Please do not bring snacks which may contain nuts. If in doubt, please ask.
  • Please treat the Indoor Playground as you would your own home.
  • Help us clean up before you leave. Small gym toys can go in the laundry basket, and riding toys returned to the 'parking lot'.
  • Gym toys must stay in the gym. Some items from the playroom can come to the gym, but please return them when you're done.
  • Please be familiar with the rules for each play space which are posted in the appropriate places.
  • Please borrow from our Parent Lending Library in the downstairs playroom by the craft area.
  • Supervise your children, or better yet, play along!
